PALM COAST, FL—September 26, 2007— In a major departure from conventional solar screen technology, ITA Inc. has introduced Meritec® Soft Screen, a new shading fabric that successfully combines an exceptionally soft surface texture with an exceptionally stable internal structure. The fabric’s unique properties are achieved through a patented, three-dimensional, layered design incorporating new, high-tech materials and construction methods.

The internal core layer of high-tenacity spun polyester provides heavy-duty strength and durability. A middle layer of specialized “smart” plastics adds structural integrity though a unique, internal polymer-thread welding process. The satiny soft surface layer is woven from high-luster optical fibers that effectively filter both solar light and radiant energy. The end result is an innovative fabric that offers a luxurious soft “hand” while outperforming even fiberglass in strength, stability and durability.

Because Meritec® Soft Screen Shades are made exclusively from recyclable, non–toxic raw materials and do not rely on PVC coatings or halogens, they are certified as environmentally compatible under ITA’s proprietary GreenAssured® testing program. According to the company, the GreenAssured® logo adds significant sales value within the growing, environmentally aware consumer market.

Meritec® Soft Screen also tests unusually high for colorfastness and UV-resistance, thanks to a special diffusion dyeing process and high-strength color agents. The fabric registered a solid 7 on the 1-to-8 graded “Blue Scale,” which is ordinarily applied to exterior fabrics such as awnings. Additional features include built-in antibacterial and antifungal properties; a permanent antistatic condition that repels dust and dirt; and easy-care washability. The fabric is also FR Assured™ under ITA’s proprietary certification program for compliance with local and international flame retardancy standards.

Meritec® Soft Screen fabrics perform superbly in Roman shades, vertical blinds and panel tracks as well as roller shades. They are available in widths up to 78 inches, in a variety of colors, with openness factors of 3%, 5%, and 12%.
